How earwax removal works

1

A quick chat

We ask about your symptoms and any history of ear surgery or perforations, so treatment is right for you.

2

Examination

Using a video otoscope, your clinician views the wax and eardrum clearly before starting.

3

Gentle microsuction

A fine, low-pressure suction lifts the wax away - no water, no mess, and you stay in control throughout.

4

Aftercare

We confirm the ear is clear, explain what we found and share simple advice to keep it healthy.

Before we arrive

What to do before your appointment

A little preparation makes the treatment quicker and more comfortable.

  • Soften wax with olive or almond oil drops
  • Use the drops twice a day for 3-5 days
  • Don't use cotton buds or ear candles
  • Tell us about any past ear surgery
  • Mention any current ear infection
  • Pick a quiet, well-lit room
A common question

Should I remove earwax?

Earwax is completely normal and actually protective - it traps dust, repels water and keeps the ear canal healthy. In most people it clears itself naturally and is best left well alone.

Removal is only needed when wax builds up and causes symptoms: a blocked or muffled feeling, earache, itchiness, ringing, or a poorly fitting hearing aid. If your ears feel fine, there's usually no need to remove anything at all.

No - it's gentle and most people find it painless. You'll hear a soft suction sound, which is completely normal.

How long does it take?+

Usually about 30 minutes, including the examination and aftercare advice.

Do I really need to use drops first?+

A few days of oil drops softens the wax and makes removal quicker, easier and more comfortable - so it genuinely helps.
